ARE YOU READY?

Some people open debate college football that have NO clue about the facts and history of the sport.

I always laugh when I hear people talk about the split titles in the early days of college football. There were several split titles in college football history.

There were several split titles in college football history.

Here is why...Some of the polls awarded titles BEFORE the bowl games. (the AP for one example). Others waited until after the bowl games. (which make more sense)

For example, In 1960, Ole Miss finished 10-0-1. They finished #2 in the regular season polls. Behind #1 Minnesota.

AP voted Minnesota the National Champs BEFORE they lost the Rose Bowl and finished 8-2. Ole Miss went on to the Sugar Bowl and beat Rice 14-6.

The polls that came out AFTER the Sugar Bowl, voted Ole Miss as National Champs. Every title Ole Miss has was voted AFTER they WON the Sugar Bowl.

Therefore…

Who do you think deserved the National Championship of 1960?

Ole Miss 10-1 Sugar Bowl Champs (Billingsley, Football Writers, DeVold, Dunkel, Football Research Champs)

or

Minnesota 8-2 losers of the Rose Bowl (AP Champs)

Dear LSU,

Why do you have "Billy Cannon Day" every time you play Ole Miss?

We know that his punt return was a great play that gave Ole Miss the only loss of the season, and put your LSU Tigers in the Sugar Bowl....

But do you know that you played Ole Miss in the Sugar Bowl and lost 21-0.

Also, do you know that Billy Cannon is a CONVICTED FELON!!! Oh yes!

On July 9, 1983, your beloved Billy Cannon was arrested by the United States Secrect Service. He was charged and convicted (which he admitted) of counterfeiting. He ILLEGALLY manufactured over $6,000,000. He was sentenced to 5 years in prison.

I am glad this is your "Big Hero!" It really fits LSU. Here is a picture for the LSU Hall of Fame.
